A New Year’s Eve wedding is definitely an undertaking, but the way we celebrate the rest of our lives is always worth the challenge. Plus, the theme couldn’t be more fitting considering your wedding day is the start to a new chapter in your life, which is exactly why we celebrate and cheers to a new calendar year in our lives! With this said, we’re here to give you some New Year’s Eve themed wedding ideas, so let’s get to it! (cover image: Just a Dream Photography)
1. Shine bright like a diamond… ring!
There’s a way to pull off a sequin wedding court without looking flashy. It’s all about how you do it. For the bridesmaids, sequin dresses are a definite but we do want to keep it sophisticated and elegant. After all, while you want everyone to sparkle, we would hate to distract from what this big day is all about. So have your ladies rock sequins in elegant silhouettes.
2. Cause baby, this marriage is a firework
As the newlyweds say their, “I dos” and runs off to the reception to celebrate their first moments as a married couple, send them off with sparklers. It only seems fitting, especially, for a New Year’s Eve themed occasion. Or better yet, go all out with fireworks!
3. Guests write “newlywed resolutions” to the happy couple
It’s all in the details. At the reception tables, set up pens and stationary for guests to write newlywed resolutions to the married couple. These would be like the classic New Year’s resolutions we all vow (no pun intended!) to do every year. And the extra twist? These messages from the guests will be treated like the classic message in a bottle, because how romantic would that be?
4. A venue as studded as the New Year’s ball itself.
From sequined table cloths to miniature New Year’s balls hanging on a string, the final touches to this theme is to bring the whole idea together with the venue. We want the reception to be as bright as the New Year’s ball itself, because your future is looking just as bright and we think everyone should feel that!
5. Ring Off Your Marriage With The Right Accessories
This means hats, blowers, streamers, balloons… all the props you would use to celebrate the New Year will be at this wedding reception. The key is that we really want the guests to feel like they’re commemorating this new chapter with the happy couple!
6. Think vintage, think classic, think GATSBY
For some reason the vintage, classic, 1920s Gatsby look seems so fitting for New Years! It’s probably because vintage never goes out of style, and wouldn’t you want your wedding day to be remembered as just that? So make sure to add those vintage elements, whether it be in an old-time antique photo shoot area or in the decorations and attire.

7. If in doubt, black and gold everything
If you drive the New Year’s theme home, you have to emphasize it’s infamous black and gold color scheme. This is the easiest way to implement glam, glitz, and everything that is New Years nostalgia.
8. When the clock strikes midnight…
Leading up to midnight, the couple will have their first kiss as a married couple for the new year. This will be done with a countdown by all the guests, just like how we would count down for the ball to drop to ring in the New Year! Leading up to midnight, there could be a pyramid of champagne for the guests to cheers to and bonus points for a balloon drop at the strike of midnight!
Now here’s to putting a ring on it this new year! Cheers to a happy ending, and an even happier beginning!
