What happens when a wedding planner gets married? As you can imagine, Summer Simmons beautiful backyard wedding was picture perfect, not missing a single detail. We could go on and on about all of the gorgeous images and decor from Summer and Devon’s wedding, but luckily we have the full story from the beautiful bride herself:
“As a decades long Wedding Planner for Hullabaloo Event Design, it surprised me how hard it was to plan my own wedding! The bride in me and the designer part of me, we’re in dissension. The bride wanted a small intimate wedding, while the designer wanted a no-holds barred extravaganza. Luckily with the help of my amazing set of vendors and friends, we were able to do both. Despite the bountiful incredible venue options in SoCal, my husband and I decided to get married in our backyard. We bought it together and painstakingly renovated it over the course of a year to make it into the house of our dreams. Deciding to do it in the house we built together carried a lot of significance for us…and demanded a small guest count. My husbands must have was food, mine was flowers. The buzz-word for both of us, was abundance. Although our wedding was small, we didn’t want it to feel small. To set the tone with our invitations, we created a custom logo and our invites were gold-foiled on handmade, hand torn paper. Our little map was my favorite element of our whole wedding!”
“Centerpieces were overfilled with garden roses, eucalyptus and mini-hydrangea to give it a garden feel. We added crystal stemware and gold flatware that sparkled so beautifully as the sun set on our little backyard. We served our menu family-style, so guests could have as much as they wanted of Slow Roasted Scottish Salmon, Short ribs, Gnocchi all Romana and roasted vegetables. For dessert we had deceptively simple wedding cake, but inside contained three different flavors, Chocolate Ganache, Vanilla Bean and Marble (a subtle nod to our swirl). As a gift to my husband, I surprised him with a Cigar Roller and a Mixologist from our favorite brunch spot in Manhattan Beach, MB Post. William, our Mixologist, came up with our two signatures, the Dream Catcher and the Parlor, named after my husband’s directorial debut film, which premiered the following week, which wereamazing. But we also offered a full top-shelf bar. At the end of the night we sent our guests home with breakfast, donuts from the old-school world famous Randy’s donuts in our neighborhood. It ended up being the perfect blend of Bride and design…proving what I constantly tell my clients, just because its small doesn’t mean it can’t be fabulous!”
