Traditional and Glamorous Wedding at the Historic San Francisco Mansion

Brianna Kozlarek / Friday April 20, 2018

Derek and Angellica’s love story is a real life fairy tale, complete with a castle cake, a breathtaking crown and sword ceremony on their wedding day! The two met through mutual friends, and only a year and a half later they got engaged at the groom’s Coast Guard Ball in front of 800 people much to the bride’s surprise. Glitter and a soft color palette made their venue feel like a castle straight out of fairy tale. They topped off their special day by taking part in Korean traditions to pay respect to her heritage. Fun quote from the bride, “With Derek’s military history and Angellica’s federal law enforcement background, they could survive any “Walking Dead” apocalypse that might abruptly occur. You’ll want them on your team.”

Traditional Ceremony

They implemented a Korean wedding ceremony (pyebaek) after dinner and an Arch of Swords ceremony after the wedding ceremony. After a scripture reading with the string-quartet, Arch of Sabers ceremony, cake-cutting with Derek’s sword, Korean wedding ceremony, and dancing, they think the deal was sealed in this magnificent fairytale mansion. “The Korean bowing ceremony was so exciting because we hadn’t even rehearsed anything and just went with the flow – we enjoyed playing the traditional Korean games like our parents throwing chestnuts and dates representing the girls and boys we’d have as our future children depending on how many we caught of each.”

The Reception

Advice from Angellica to future brides? “Listen to yourself when you’re planning and don’t let anyone tell you what to do or make you feel bad – this is your wedding! Also, at your wedding, take a step back with your husband, hold his hand tightly, and take a visual snapshot of your momentous day! Lastly, have so much fun with the family and friends you truly love and can depend on so you can remember the celebration forever with the people who matter most!”
