Popping the big question. This is the question, the moment, that is the start to the rest of your life with the love of your life, your best friend. You’ve seen the question get asked in the movies you’ve watched and in the books you’ve read, and when you find yourself here, you can’t believe it’s happening to you. There is no right or wrong way to propose, the acts itself is perhaps the most romantic moment of your life no matter what. But, we do have a few favorite ideas to share with you today:

1) A question that’s out of the box.
I’ll never forget watching my uncle propose to my aunt. We were all in the living room, listening to their favorite song that just happened to be on the radio. Well it turns out, it was a coincidence. My uncle switched the radio to a CD of songs that reminds him of my now aunt, but since it was background music no one really thought about it twice. And then, he pulled out a box and handed it to her saying nothing more than to open it. When she opened the box, in came a smaller box, and an even smaller box, until the smallest but post important box was left… the one with the ring on it.

I love this idea because there’s no sappy speech. It’s candid, and as corny as this analogy is, that’s just how love works. We fall for people and it’s unexpected, it’s candid. And sometimes, it’s so right that the only answer that’s an option is, “Yes, I do.”

2. The casual but not so casual conversation
I love the idea of being proposed unexpectedly without the flashiness of a mariachi band with a helicopter spelling out the question. I just think it would be adorable to have the proposal planned in what seems like such an unexpected form. Maybe you two are talking about what you want for dinner, and the question gets raised when someone says, “Well, I want pasta… but I want you to be married to you more.” *cue going down on one knee* *cue the water works*

3. Take the love of your life down memory lane
You and your partner should take a trip to the place you first met or had your first date. Then, do whatever you can to recreate and relive that first date. Even if it was as simple as a high school football game and McDonalds Big Macs afterwards. Then right before the night is over and you go back to reality, pop the question to make everything come full circle.

4. Video Proposal
Now this one isn’t simple, but it leaves a simple message being said so strongly. Compile a video slideshow with mini-clips of yourself saying what you love about your partner, or read your favorite quotes, have your closest friends and family chime in on the video on top of a playlist of sappy songs and photos of the two of you together. Bonus points if you can find a way to get the TV to automatically play this video when your partner walks in, and then surprise them and come out to join them in the room with the ring in hand.

5. If you want the big bang proposal, book a flash mob.
Yes, this is a thing! BookAFlashMob.com is a real website where one can request for a flash mob to help them propose. Honestly, I’m not sure what the world will think of next, but this is pretty self-explanatory as to why it would be an amazing proposal.

But just remember that at the end of the day, it’s not really about how you ask it’s about why you’re asking this person to spend the rest of their life with you. If you can answer that question, no matter what happens, you’ve already won.
