AP Proposal Video: Kike and Tayo

Elizabeth / Monday September 2, 2013

I’m finally back from Nigeria so we’re back to our regularly scheduled programming. First off is an adorable proposal from my time in Lagos. My cousin Tayo proposed to my dear friend [and bridesmaid] Kike and I was there to witness it. The ring is whatever the superlative of stunning is- let’s go with flawless! I am so excited to welcome Kike into what I think is our awesome family (ahem).

From the Bride
Tayo couldn’t have picked a more tiring, exhausting and stressful day to ask me to marry him. I think that was his plan all along (LOL). We had been moving from one event to the other all day and by 9.30pm, I was ready to go home and get into bed. Around 9.45, he informed me that we would be having dinner with a few of our friends seeing as my good friend, Kunbi (who just so happens to be his cousin) was in town for a few days.

We arrived at the restaurant about 10pm after a series of unforeseen and unfortunate events. We all placed our order for dinner and a few minutes later, he called me over to the bar and said to me, “Kike, I know this is going to annoy you, but the waiter just said they don’t have your pasta”. Everyone who knows me, knows this is the worst thing you can ever tell me! I started getting a bit agitated with the waiter who burst into a fit of laughter. As you can imagine, that aggravated me even more; the bartender joined in the laughter and so did Tayo. I looked behind me, my friends were laughing too. I kept asking what was going on and why this was so funny!

I started to walk away, upset and he pulled me back and said “Don’t you know what’s about to happen?”  I looked at him, puzzled and next thing, he began to pull this red velvet box out of his pocket. I thought my legs were going to give way and I felt an Asthma attack coming so I ran out the restaurant. LOL. I heard him say, “Kike, really?! You’re leaving me here?!” I ran back into the restaurant, towards him and I could see his mouth moving but I couldn’t hear anything. I was crying and screaming the entire time. I finally stopped when he placed the most beautiful ring on my finger.

It was definitely the perfect ending to my day and I couldn’t have asked for a better man to share it with.
