AP Spotlight: Newton and David Events {Nigeria}

Kunbi O / Wednesday August 7, 2013
Today we have one of my favorite wedding design companies in Nigeria. Newton and David started off as floral company over 20 years ago and has blossomed into a multifaceted design outfit known for its fabulous creations. We caught up with the wonderful folks at N+D…

Tell us a little about your brand:

Newton & David was originally created as a floral company over 22 years ago from Mrs Uche Majekodunmi’s garden. Fast-forward two decades, the company has grown to become a well-known and respected floral, décor and design company in the Nigerian industry!

What inspired you to go into event planning and design:

Over the years we’ve managed events on a small scale for our loyal customers. Everyone knows Newton & David and our reputation of paying attention to the little details. We noticed that there’s a growing group of people who are interested in having events that are personalized and customized to their taste and we decided to expand our services to officially include Event Management to cater to this market.

Describe the Newton and David method:
It begins by taking the clients brief which is then interpreted by the creative team in order to bring it to reality. We like to call ourselves “Creative Orchestrators” which basically means we use our creativity to come up with event concepts to reflect each client’s personality. Our method involves a high level of creativity, fearless out of the box thinking, strong eye for details and most importantly consistency to deliver international standards despite the developing country challenges.

What packages do you offer:
We offer walk-in and delivery floral and plant services at all our outlets. We also offer décor services for various events such as intimate dinner parties, store launches, weddings and corporate functions. Finally, we also offer full Event management services (concept to reality) as well as Event Advisory services where we provide the tools required to run your event on your own. Most importantly, at Newton and David we’ll work with your budget and help your visions come to life! David.

Do you travel?
Yes! We love to travel and we’re looking to travel a lot more outside of the country for destination weddings! We’ve currently worked in almost all 36 states in Nigeria as well as a few European countries.

What is your favorite part of the wedding planning process?
The concept/design/brainstorming stage is definitely our favorite part of the process because there are no limitations on how creative we can be. After this stage, being able to transform the concept into reality in a way that pleases the client despite the limitations at hand is a pretty amazing feeling.

What are some of your favorite venues in Lagos?
Muson centre- It’s one of the oldest venues in Lagos and one of the few that still allow decorators nail and hang props which gives us more room for creativity.

Civic center- Its already a beautiful clean space so it doesn’t require too much décor in order to transform the space.

The Wheatbaker : Definitely one of our favorite spaces to decorate because it’s a very intimate space. It’s one of those spaces that’s lovely to work with and always looks classy even with minimal décor.

What is your favorite thing about weddings?
The love!!! We’re suckers for Love here at N&D!

Any advice for brides to be on the planning process?
Start the planning process early!
Choose the right colors! You don’t want your reception venue looking like a rainbow! Unless of course that was your intent ☺
Trust your planner and listen to their advice, they’ve being through the process many times
Most importantly try to relax and enjoy your special day!

Special thanks to Gozie Coker of N+D for the feature. For more information on Newton and David visit their website:
