Interview with Madeline Gardner + the Morilee NYBFW 2019 Desert Dreams Collection

Brianna Kozlarek / Saturday April 27, 2019

Talk about a highlight of the year! We had the opportunity to interview the one and only Madeline Gardner of Morilee AND view her amazing new collection from NYBFW. Hearing the words of inspiration behind these stunning gowns takes our understanding and appreciation for the craft to a whole new level. Morilee is always in our top picks from fashion week, and we are so thrilled to share this collection and the words from its amazing designer:

What is the inspiration behind this season’s collection?

My inspiration for the Desert Dreams collection started with so many elements that I love in nature. From the reflections of light on the ocean, to the sun-kissed rock formations in the desert. The subdued colors I used were also drawn from natural elements that surround us, from the faint glow of a sunrise to the layers of glorious shades in a sunset. I wanted this collection to have a very organic feel and combine the bohemian spirit of my brides with touches of elevated glamour.

What trends do you think we’ll be seeing this fall?

With the upcoming Desert Dreams Collection, the beauty is in the details. Intricate multi-dimensional beading, delicate layering of soft laces and sparkle tulle to create texture, beautiful open backs edged with exquisite beadwork, and of course lots of extra-long trains with intricate cut-outs!

Is there a fabric you enjoy working with the most?

Lace has always been my all-time favorite fabric to work with, and what lead me into designing bridal. There are so many gorgeous options to choose from. From alençon and chantilly to eyelet, the unique details of each lace offer endless inspiration.
